Efficiency in Power Filters and Thermal Interfaces

Genis Caminal Villodres, Raúl Rodriguez, Würth Elektronik

Efficiency in the application of filters
Given that power electronics are indispensable, efficiently controlling energy is crucial. More often than not, many variables occur in the laboratory and impact cost. Therefore, we must pay close attention when selecting or applying a filter of electromagnetic compatibility, bearing in mind that a large part of energy efficiency depends on this during the design process. Therefore, we will present the different scenarios, modeling the possible loads and impedances of the circuit, offering the best practices when applying a filter. Finally, we will show simulations and a real prototype to demonstrate.

Thermal Interfaces
In modern electronics, significant challenges associated with high temperatures arise, which must be addressed adequately in the long term. This seminar will analyze these thermal challenges, and we will present a way to realize calculations previously related to thermal interface management, showing different cases of application.

Analysis and Measurement in a Power Electronic Prototype (Part 1)

Arturo Mediano, HF Magic Lab S.L. and University of Zaragoza

In this session, we will work on a real power electronic prototype, using instrumentation to explore and demonstrate some of the measurement techniques that are relevant in this type of system. We will use modern and high-performance instrumentation and will see how the information obtained is used to understand and optimize the behavior of the stage.

Analysis and Measurement in a Power Electronic Prototype (Part 2)

Arturo Mediano, HF Magic Lab S.L. and University of Zaragoza

In this second part, we will focus on the EMI/EMC behavior of the same power electronic prototype studied previously. Through a series of practical measurements in real-time, we will explore how electromagnetic interference is generated. We will also evaluate corrections and how to act on emissions through design and filtering techniques, using specialized instrumentation to visualize the emissions, diagnose problems, and apply effective solutions.

Introduction to Power Analysis

Speaker: Dayrene Frometa, Rohde & Schwarz

This seminar provides a clear and comprehensive introduction to modern power analysis, beginning with the fundamental concepts that define what a power analyzer is and why high-precision measurement is essential in today’s increasingly efficiency-driven electrical systems. We will focus on the complementary roles of power analyzers and oscilloscopes, demonstrating how oscilloscopes excel at capturing fast transients and waveform behavior, while power analyzers provide accurate, long-term measurements at the system level.
An overview of the R&S ZES Zimmer range of power analysis products will be given, showing how each solution addresses a variety of measurement challenges. A practical demonstration measuring efficiency with a power analyzer will conclude the session.
